ISSUE:
Some 2014-2016 Fusion vehicles built at the Flat Rock assembly plant and built on or before 26-Aug-2016 may exhibit an A-pillar trim panel out of position near the headliner at one or both front doors.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Does the vehicle exhibit an A-pillar trim panel out of position near the headliner? (Figure 1)
Figure 1- Yes – proceed to Step 2.
- No – this article does not apply.
- Check the vehicle identification number (VIN). Does the first digit of the VIN start with the number 1? Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-01.
- Yes – proceed to Step 3.
- No – the vehicle was not built at the Flat Rock assembly plant. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05 for normal diagnosis.
- Remove the lower interior B-pillar trim panel. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
- Remove and discard the upper B-pillar trim panel. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
- Remove the assist handle retainer covers and the retainers and remove the assist handle.
- Remove the sun visor and sun visor clip. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
- Remove and discard the upper A-pillar trim panel. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
- Position the headliner down so the forward foam block/stuffer can be accessed. (Figure 2)

- From the outside edge of the foam, measure and mark 17 mm (21/32″). (Figure 2)
- Using a hacksaw blade or equivalent, cut and remove 17 mm (21/32″) from the outside edge of the foam. (Figure 3)
