This article supersedes TSB 16-0104 to update the model years.

Issue: Some 2015-2018 MustangeBay logo vehicles with a convertible top may exhibit a condition where the top sags on one or both sides near the rear glass due to broken tension rod clips.

 

Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Service Procedure

  1. Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10.
  2. Remove the rear quarter trim panels. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
  3. Disconnect the convertible top tension belt from the rear bow. (Figure 1)

  1. Lift the headliner over the rear glass tension rods. (Figure 2)

  1. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the rear glass tension rod clips open and remove the clips. (Figure 3)

  1. Install new clips onto the rear glass tension rod ends. Note the alignment rib and make sure the clips are oriented for proper installation into the rear glass frame. (Figure 4)

  1. Open the roof slightly to relieve tension and ease alignment between the rear glass tension rod and the rear glass frame.
  2. Insert the rear glass tension rods into the rear glass frame. Verify the clip is installed securely into the frame and the locking tab is visible as shown. Use of a mirror may be necessary. Pull on the clip slightly to verify the clip is fully locked. (Figure 5)

  1. Slightly press on the convertible top as shown to verify the rear glass tension rod is connected to the rear glass frame. (Figure 6)

  1. Remove the plastic child seat tether covers. (Figure 7, A)

  1. Position the parcel shelf up. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05

(1). It is not necessary to disconnect the convertible top tension belt adjuster bracket.

  1. Install the foam block as shown. (Figure 7, B)
  2. Position the parcel shelf down and install. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
  3. Connect the convertible top tension belt. (Figure 1)
  4. Cycle the convertible top twice from fully closed to fully open to make sure the rear glass tension rods remain properly attached to the rear glass frame.
  5. Install the plastic child seat tether covers. (Figure 7, A)
  6. Install the rear quarter trim panels. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
  7. Install the rear seat backrest. Refer to WSM, Section 501-10B.
