TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 3.0L Diesel – Low Oil Pressure At Idle 22-2386 17 October 2022 Model: Ford 2018-2021 F-150 Engine: 3.0L diesel Issue: Some 2018-2021 F-150 vehicles equipped with the 3.0L diesel engine may experience low oil pressure at idle after an oil change. This condition may be caused by a broken anti-drain back oil plug in the oil filter adapter. The anti-drain back oil plug is now available to be serviced separately from the oil filter adapter. To correct this condition, follow this service procedure to replace the anti-drain back oil plug. Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition on vehicles that meet the following criteria: • 2018-2021 F-150 • 3.0L diesel • Low oil pressure at idle after an oil change Parts Service Part Number Quantity Description ML3Z-6A606-A 1 Anti-Drain Back Oil Plug XO-5W30-QFA As Needed Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 F-150 Diesel Motor Oil As Needed indicates the amount of the part may vary and/or is not a whole number. Parts can be billed out as non-whole numbers, including less than 1. Warranty Status: Eligible under provisions of New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW)/Service Part Warranty (SPW)/Special Service Part (SSP)/Extended Service Plan (ESP) coverage. Repair/Claim Coding Causal Part: 6A606 Condition Code: 01 Service Procedure 1. Remove the oil filter cap and the oil filter. 2. Inspect the inside bottom of the oil filter adapter for a broken anti-drain back oil plug. Is the plug damaged? (1). Yes – proceed to Step 3. (2). No – this article does not apply. Proceed to Step 4 and continue with diagnostics. Refer to WSM, Section 303-00 Engine System > General Information, Diagnosis and Testing. 3. Remove and discard the damaged anti-drain back oil plug and replace it with a new anti-drain back oil plug. Removal and installation of the anti-drain back oil plug 4. Reinstall the oil filter and oil filter cap. 5. Check the oil level at normal engine operating temperature. Is the oil level at the proper level? (1). Yes – repair is complete. (2).
