– Convertible Top Cleaning Procedure
Convertible top care/cleaning. The convertible top cleaning procedures were omitted from the 2015 Mustang
Owners Manual.
To clean the cloth convertible top on a 2015 Mustang
, use the following steps:
1) Wash with a high quality convertible top cleaner and protectant.
2) Do not use stiff bristle brushes or abrasive materials or cleaners.
3) Top material that shows lint (cotton wood fuzz, etc.) use a lint roller or a vacuum with a soft bristle brush.
4) Hot waxes applied by commercial car washes can affect the clean ability of cloth material.
5) Using high water pressure or wand-type car washes against the convertible top and windows may cause water leaks and possible weather strip damage.
Folding the top when it is wet may cause mold, mildew, possible wear and discoloration of the cloth material.

My husband just bought a convertible and he can’t wait to drop the top on it when the weather gets warmer. I like how you point out that using high water pressure or wand-type car washes against the convertible top may cause water leaks and damage. I didn’t realize that convertible tops of a car needed to be cleaned a different way than regular cars, so I’ll have to pass this onto my husband before he takes his car through a car wash!
