Wood Grain Applique Cracked or Split – 2011-2015 Lincoln MKX

ISSUE:

Some 2011-2015 MKX front door trim panel(s) may exhibit the wood grain applique cracked or split.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the front door trim panel(s). Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.
2. Drill a hole in the demister duct to access the applique screw. (Figure 1)
   1. Locate the center of the hole by measuring 10 mm (3/8″) from the step edge of the duct in two locations and draw a line through the two marked locations. Measure 15 mm (5/8″) from the edge of FoMoCo embossed triangle that intersects with line.
   2. Drill a 15 mm (5/8″) hole at the marked location and de-burr hole.
   3. If any material is trapped in the duct, remove the vent using a plastic tool and remove the material.

3. Remove the applique screws on the back of the door trim panel. (Figure 2)
   1. Eight screws for the left hand (LH).
   2. Nine screws for the right hand (RH).

4. Remove the door handle bracket screws. (Figure 3)
   1. Two bracket screws on the LH.
   2. One bracket screw on the RH.

5. Remove the applique from the front door trim panel.
   
   
   
   1. Pull out the door handle bracket, pull the top of the applique to tilt out and lift up to remove. (Figure 4)

6. Install the new applique on the front door trim panel.
   1. Pull out the handle, insert the applique by tilting the applique to allow the bottom flange to be inserted into the slot at the top of the armrest.
   2. Make sure the 3 locators on the front door trim panel are properly placed and engaged so the applique sits flush.
7. Reinstall the screws into the door handle bracket and tighten to 1 Nm (9 lb-in).
8. Reinstall the applique screws and tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
9. Use the rubber plug to seal the drilled hole in the demister duct.
10. Reinstall the front door trim panel(s). Refer WSM, Section 501-05.
