ISSUE:
Some 2013-2014 Escape vehicles built on or before 10/9/2013 may exhibit a condition with the inside liftgate pull handle loose and/or the liftgate trim panel loose at the lower right corner of the liftgate.
Longer attaching screws and a new torque specification is now available for service.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Is the inside liftgate pull handle loose and/or the liftgate trim panel loose at the lower right corner of the liftgate?
- Yes – proceed to Step 2.
- No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-08 for normal diagnostics.
- Check the vehicle build date.
- Is the vehicle built on or before 6/16/2013?
- Yes – Replace the inside liftgate pull handle attaching screws. Torque screws to 1.3 Nm +/- .2 Nm (11.5 lb-in +/- 1.8 lb-in).
- No – proceed to Step 4.
- Torque the inside liftgate pull handle attaching screws to 1.3 Nm +/- .2 Nm (11.5 lb-in +/- 1.8 lb-in).
- Do not tighten the screws beyond the specified torque specification.
