Summary
Some 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine may exhibit: insufficient cooling from the air conditioning (A/C), under hood popping/knocking/hissing noises and/or under hood smoke, coolant stains and/or spills on to the A/C compressor and clutch assembly. The compressor clutch might fail after operating the A/C system if the exterior of the compressor gets wet. Perform pin point test J, refer to the Workshop Manual, Section 412-00 Climate Control System > General Information > Diagnosis and Testing. If a compressor clutch failure is identified, replace the compressor clutch only. Do not replace the A/C compressor if no performance issues are identified. Document the PPT J results in the warranty claim. For claiming, use causal part 19V649 and applicable labor operations in Section 11 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

Refer to the Workshop Manual, Section 412-00 Climate Control System > General Information > A/C Compressor Leak Detection to ensure proper function. If no performance issues are identified, do not replace the A/C compressor for this condition.
