Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. The front subframe bolts may not have been tightened properly during assembly, which could result in loose bolts.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front subframe bolts and tighten them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 21S09.

SERVICE ACTION
Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers will verify bolts are torqued to specification. With proper floor lifting and holding equipment this repair could be done at off-site locations. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION AND MAILING SCHEDULE
Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of March 22, 2021. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
SOLD VEHICLES
- Ford has not issued instructions to stop selling/delivering or driving used vehicles under this safety recall. Owners should contact their dealer for an appointment to have their vehicles remedied as soon as practicable. Owners can continue to safely drive their vehicles.
- Immediately contact any of your affected customers whose vehicles are not on your VIN list but are identified in OASIS. Give the customer a copy of the Owner Notification Letter (when available) and schedule a service date.
- Correct other affected vehicles identified in OASIS which are brought to your dealership.
- Dealers are to prioritize repairs of customer vehicles over repairs of new and used vehicle inventory.
STOCK VEHICLES
- Correct all affected units in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
- Use OASIS to identify any affected vehicles in your used vehicle inventory.

1. Position the vehicle on a hoist. Please follow the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures in Section 100-02.
2. Remove the pushpins, screws and the front underbody shield. See Figure 1.
3. Torque the front subframe bolts. See Figure 2.
- Torque: 81 lb.ft (110 Nm)
4. Install the front underbody shield, pushpins and the screws. See Figure 1.
- Torque: 18 lb.in (2 Nm)

Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in your
vehicle, with the VIN shown above.

What is the issue? On your vehicle, it may be possible the supplier did not tighten the front
subframe bolts properly during component assembly.
What is the risk? This may result in loose front subframe bolts, which may affect crash
performance. In the event of a crash, the vehicle may not perform to our
strict safety standards.
What will Ford and
your dealer do?
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to tighten the front
subframe bolts free of charge (parts and labor).
How long will it take? The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to
service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a
longer period of time.
What should you do? Please call your dealer without delay and request a service date for Recall
21S09. Provide the dealer with your VIN, which is printed near your name at
the beginning of this letter.
Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving your vehicle under this safety
recall. You should contact your dealer for an appointment to have your
vehicle remedied as soon as practicable. You can continue to safely drive
your vehicle.

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the front subframe bolts may not have been tightened to the proper
torque during component assembly. Loose subframe bolts may affect crash performance, increasing
the risk of injury.
SERVICE ACTION
DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any new in-stock vehicles involved in this safety recall. A
complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers the week of March 8, 2021 when it is anticipated
that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to support this safety recall.
IMPORTANT: Dealers should open a Repair Order (RO) only when a full dealer bulletin is
published. Opening a RO against an Awareness or Advance Notice will result in warranty
rejections against a recall.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of record will be notified via first-class mail after repair instructions and parts ordering
information have been provided to dealers.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to
the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of
up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.
