Summary
2020-2023 Explorer non-hybrid vehicles equipped with a 3.0L EcoBoost or 3.3L Duratec engine and 2020-2023 Aviator non-hybrid vehicles equipped with a 3.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an exhaust rattle requiring replacement of the left or right exhaust flexible pipe (5G203). The updated part locates the flexible joint portion of the pipe closer toward the catalytic converter than the originally equipped part. This is due to a design change with these replacement components which will not cause any functional issues with the vehicle.

Issue: Some 2020 Explorer/Aviator vehicles may exhibit a rattle type noise originating from the exhaust flexible pipe. This may be due to the natural harmonic frequency of the pipe. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to install a worm gear clamp over the exhaust flexible pipe.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:
- 2020 Explorer/Aviator
- Exhibits a rattle type noise originating from the exhaust flexible pipe

Service Procedure
1. Open and install the worm gear clamp over the flexible portion of the exhaust flexible pipe. Tighten to 2.7 Nm (24 lb-in) (Figure 1).
