Exhaust Leak from Left Side Catalytic Converter to Muffler Inlet Pipe Joint – 2015 Ford Mustang

EXHAUST LEAK – 5.0L TI-VCT BUILT ON OR BEFORE 1/22/2015

2015 MustangeBay logo vehicles equipped with a 5.0L Ti-VCT engine and built on or before 1/22/2015 may exhibit an exhaust leak from the left side catalytic converter to muffler inlet pipe joint.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Loosen both the front and rear joint clamps on the muffler inlet pipe.
  2. Inspect the muffler inlet pipe ball joint cup for puckering. Is the pipe puckered? (Figure 1)
    1. Yes – replace the muffler inlet pipe. Repair is complete.
    2. No – proceed to Step 3.

  1. Realign the muffler inlet pipe making sure the ball joint is fully seated to the catalytic converter.
  2. Tighten the ball joint clamp to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) and the rear clamp to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  3. Is a leak still present?
    1. Yes – replace the muffler inlet pipe.
    2. No – repair is complete.
