6.7L DIESEL – MIL ILLUMINATED – DTCS P209F, P208E OR P2043 – EXHAUST FLUID SYSTEM BUILT ON 11/7/2013 AND THROUGH 12/10/2014

FORD: 2014-2015 F-Super Duty

2014-2015 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine and built on 11/7/2013 and through 12/10/2014 may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC): P209F, P208E or P2043.

This is indicated in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with warning message displaying Exhaust Fluid System Fault.

A calibration is available to improve the monitors for the listed DTCs with the powertrain control module (PCM) software.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Using an Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or equivalent Scan Tool, check for DTCs. Are DTCs P209F, P208E and/or P2043 present or is the vehicle in forced idle mode with the message center displaying Exhaust Fluid System Fault?
    1. No – this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
  1. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS or Ford J2534 release 94.01 and higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com.
  1. Reset/clear the diesel particulate filter (DPF) parameter tables. Resetting/clearing the adaptive learn tables can be accomplished with IDS by selecting the following: Toolbox, Powertrain, Service Functions, Diesel Particulate Regeneration System, DPF Parameter Reset.
    1. The adaptive learn tables for the DPF are not reset during PCM reprogramming and will need to be reset/cleared to prevent the code/codes from being set falsely.

NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE’S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION’S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

Service Information & Reprogramming

Software necessary to program electronic modules to the latest calibration level, perform module initialization (PATS), and set Programmable Parameters on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

Ford Module Programming (FMP) is a software application that allows subscribers to program electronic modules on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. It can be used for:

  • Reprogramming emission-related (OBDII) modules on some vehicles manufactured in 1995 and all vehicles manufactured from 1996 to the present
  • Reprogramming or reconfiguring non-emission-related modules on many vehicles (UBP and MS-CAN not supported)

In addition, module initialization (PATS) functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset can be done using this application.

J2534 Device using Ford Module Programming (FMP) can Reprogram and Configure most Modules.
