Second Row Seats may be Missing Attachment Studs

Seats with missing inboard attachments may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

 

Summary

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor vehicles.

The affected vehicles may be missing the two front inboard attachments for the second row seats.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, “Seating systems”, and (FMVSS) number 210, “Seat belt assembly anchorages.”

 

Remedy

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to verify that they have the second row seat attachment studs, installing them if not, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin by August 18, 2017.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.

NOTE:  This Compliance Recall affects four (4) vehicles total.

 

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL

Some of the affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor

Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 207 Seating Systems Installation, and No. 210 Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.  These vehicles may not be equipped with inboard attachment studs and weld nuts for the second row seat.  Second row seats that are missing the inboard attachments may not adequately restrain the occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

SERVICE ACTION

Dealers are to contact the Special Service Support Center (SSSC) via the SSSC Web Contact Site for parts ordering and repair instructions.  The SSSC Web Contact Site can be accessed through the Professional Technician Society (PTS) website using the SSSC link listed at the bottom of the OASIS VIN report screen or listed under the SSSC tab.

 

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of August 14, 2017.  Dealers should contact the SSSC immediately and repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

PLEASE NOTE:

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee.  Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle.  Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.
