PROGRAM TERMS

This program extends the coverage of the DPS6 Transmission input shaft seals, clutch and transmission software calibration to seven (7) years of service or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first. If a vehicle has already exceeded the mileage limits, this coverage will last through January 31, 2015. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners. For vehicles built June 6, 2013 through July 8, 2013 that have already exceeded time or mileage limits, coverage will last through February 29, 2020.

NOTE: This program DOES NOT apply to vehicles that qualify for repairs under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty Powertrain coverage. Repairs for vehicles covered by New Vehicle Limited Warranty Powertrain coverage should be claimed using the Labor Operation Codes provided in TSB 16-0109.

VEHICLES COVERED BY THIS PROGRAM

Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build Dates
Fiesta 2011-2014 Cuautitlan November 3, 2009 through July 8, 2013
Focus 2012-2014 Michigan August 1, 2010 through July 8, 2013

REASON FOR PROVIDING ADDITIONAL COVERAGE

Some of the affected vehicles may exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration. These issues may be due to fluid contamination of the clutch caused by leaking input shaft seals. Vehicles may or may not exhibit transmission fluid leaking from the clutch housing.

SERVICE ACTION

If an affected vehicle exhibits this condition and is beyond New Vehicle Limited Warranty Powertrain coverage, dealers are to perform diagnosis and repairs consistent with TSB 16-0109. This service must be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

NOTE: If 15B22 is open in OASIS, dealers should complete 15B22 prior to performing 14M01.

OWNER NOTIFICATION AND MAILING SCHEDULE

Owner Letters were mailed beginning the week of July 29, 2014. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration, or transmission fluid leaking from the clutch housing, whether or not the customer has received a letter. For vehicles built June 6, 2013 through July 8, 2013, owner letters will be mailed beginning the week of September 16, 2019.

STOCK VEHICLES

Do not perform this program unless the affected vehicle exhibits the covered condition.

SOLD VEHICLES

Owners of affected vehicles will be directed to dealers only if the vehicle exhibits the covered condition.

TITLE BRANDED / SALVAGED VEHICLES

Affected title branded and salvaged vehicles are not eligible for this service action.

OWNER REFUNDS

  • Ford Motor Company is offering a refund for owner-paid repairs covered by this program if the repair was performed before the date of the Owner Notification Letter. This refund offer expires January 31, 2015. For vehicles built June 6, 2013 through July 8, 2013, this refund offer will expire February 29, 2020.

RENTAL VEHICLES

Dealers are pre-approved for up to 10 days for a comparable rental vehicle. Follow Extended Service Plan (ESP) guidelines for dollar amounts. Rentals will only be reimbursed for the day(s) the vehicle is at the dealership for part replacement. Prior approval for more than 10 rental days is required from the SSSC via the SSSC Web Contact Site.

Claiming Instructions for Parts Delay Greater than 30 Days

Opening Statement:

Due to the length of time between initial diagnosis for clutch shudder and clutch availability, TSB (16-0109) and FSA (14M01-S7) labor operations allow diagnostic labor to be claimed separate from clutch repair or replacement.

Submission of a claim for diagnostic labor only while parts are on backorder deviates from normal policy and is only applicable to this repair (W&P Manual V 2.4, Section 1 page 13).

If parts delay is estimated at over 30 days, you may submit the claim for diagnostic labor.  Dealer management systems differ; thus, there are multiple methods to accomplish this.  Below are two options to submit diagnostic labor separate from repair labor.

Option 1

  • Open repair order line 1 for diagnosis and line 2 for the repair
  • Submit line 1 with line 2 open while waiting for parts
  • Submit line 2 upon completion

Option 2

  • Open and submit a repair order for diagnosis
  • Open a second repair order, at the same time, and leave it open while waiting for parts
  • Submit the 2nd repair order upon completion

If the repair is beyond 30 days, the repair will require a dealer self approval code.  If the repair is beyond 90 days, request a submission time limit code.  If parts delay is less than 30 days, follow normal policy and submit both diagnostic and repair labor when repairs have been completed.

Supporting Information:

  • Dealers should review OASIS at the time of service write-up to identify vehicles that have had diagnostic labor only claims to avoid repeat diagnosis labor.
  • Submitting multiple claims will not close FSA 14M01.

CategoryWSM Transmission – Warranty Policy.

Do:  Submit diagnostic labor only claim if backorder is greater than 30 days. Don’t:  Include diagnostic labor again at time of repair.

CERTAIN 2011 THROUGH 2014 MODEL YEAR FIESTA AND FOCUS VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A DUAL DRY-CLUTCH POWERSHIFT 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONTRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER / TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANTY EXTENSION

OVERVIEW

Some of the affected vehicles may exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration.

These issues may be due to fluid contamination of the clutch caused by leaking input shaft seals.  Vehicles may or may not exhibit transmission fluid leaking from the clutch housing.

This program extends the coverage of the DPS6 Transmission Software Calibration, Clutch, and Transmission Input Shaft Seals to seven (7) years of service or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first.

NOTE:  As of August 16, 2016, if 15B22 is open in OASIS, dealers should complete 15B22 prior to performing 14M01.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:  For this recall please refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01 for 2012-2016 Focus and 2014-2015 Fiesta.  For 2011-2013 Fiesta refer to WSM, Section 307-11.  When referred to the WSM –  All steps listed in the WSM must be performed.

NOTE:  Performing the service routines will clear adaptive strategy.  Failure to perform all steps of the IDS routines may result in erratic shifts and driveability concerns.

1. Using IDS follow the WSM Diagnosis and Testing, Diagnosis by Symptom, Pinpoint Test A (All Focus and 2014-15 Fiesta) or Pinpoint Test N (2011-2013 Fiesta) – Clutch Shudder on Acceleration to diagnose shudder.

  • For clutch replacement, upload IDS datalogger session data and record the repair validation code (RVC) generated by the IDS during testing.  This code will be needed when submitting the claim for the repair.

2. If the clutch is replaced, use IDS to reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM)/transmission control module (TCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 101.04 or higher.

NOTE:  Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com

NOTE:  Follow the IDS on-screen instructions to complete the reprogramming procedure.

NOTE:  Transmission differential seal plugs are now released and should be installed during transmission removal and while performing bench repairs to reduce/eliminate the loss of transmission fluid.

Important Information for Module Programming

NOTE:  Reprogram appropriate vehicle modules before performing diagnostics and clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) after programming.  For DTCs generated after reprogramming, follow normal diagnostic service procedures.

NOTE:  Performing the service routines will clear adaptive strategy.  Failure to perform all steps of the IDS routines may result in erratic shifts and driveabilty concerns.

NOTE:  When programming or reprogramming a module, use the following basic checks to ensure programming completes without errors.

  • Make sure the 12V battery is fully charged before carrying out the programming steps and connect IDS/scan tool to a power source.
  • Inspect vehicle communication module (VCM) and cables for any damage.  Make sure scan tool connections are not interrupted during programming.
  • A hardwired connection is strongly recommended.
  • Turn off all unnecessary accessories (radio, heated/cooled seats, headlamps, interior lamps, HVAC system, etc.) and close doors.
  • Follow all scan tool on-screen instructions carefully.
  • Disable IDS/scan tool sleep mode, screensaver, hibernation modes.
  • Create all sessions key on engine off (KOEO).  Starting the vehicle before creating a session will cause errors within the programming inhale process.

Recovering a module when programming has resulted in a blank module:

NEVER DELETE THE ORIGINAL SESSION!

a. Obtain the original IDS that was used when the programming error occurred during module reprogramming (MR) or programmable module installation (PMI).

b. Disconnect the VCM from the data link connector (DLC) and the IDS.

c. Reconnect the VCM to IDS and then connect to the DLC.  Once reconnected, the VCM icon should appear in the corner of the IDS screen.  If it does not, troubleshoot the IDS to VCM connection.

d. Locate the ORIGINAL vehicle session when programming failed.  This should be the last session used in most cases.  If not, use the session created on the date that the programming failed.

NOTE:  If the original session is not listed in the previous session list, click the ”Recycle Bin” icon at the lower right of the previous session screen.  This loads any deleted sessions and allows you to look through them.  Double-click the session to restore it.

e. Once the session is loaded, the failed process should resume automatically.

f. If programming does not resume automatically, proceed to the Module Programming menu and select the previously attempted process, PMI or MR. g.  Follow all on-screen prompts/instructions.

h. Near the end of programming, the IDS prompts you to select certain parameters. It is important to make a selection for ALL parameters listed. If the correct selection is already highlighted, you must still choose that selection before clicking the “Tick” mark to complete the configuration.

i. The last screen on the IDS may list additional steps required to complete the programming process. Make sure all applicable steps listed on the screen are followed in order.

  1. Hello.
I recently brought my car in to a Ford Dealer for the Fuel Tank Deformation Recall. When I was there I mentioned that my car was hesitating (shuddering) when I accelerate from a stop. At first they said this was covered, but when I picked up my car after repair, they said it wasn’t included in my 5-year warranty. They didn’t even bother to check the clutch/transmission. Is my car covered under this notice? It’s a 2013 Ford Focus. It only has 18,400 miles, and it feels like the clutch(?) is going.

  2. I got my Focus 2014 SE bought from US with 14M02 active but now i live in Europe. Is this warranty usable in Europe?

  3. I have a 2011 ford fiesta with a check engine light and transmission shuttering, stalling and popping out off gear wile driving, and it just hit 106000 Miles, after reading all the ongoing complaints I’m reluctant to take it to the dealer, car is only worth $3500 according to blue book, so I cant see spending $1200 + Dollars for a transmission, I should of known better then to buy FORD, History shows ford always fell short when it comes to transmissions, Bottom Line if you want Junk Buy a FORD

  4. I have a 2012 Ford Focus. I bought my vehicle in March of 2016 with 79000. In June 2016 my entire car shut down while driving and was taken to a Ford dealer. They told me it needed computer reprogramming. At that time I was not made aware of the Field Service Actions that were needed only computer reprogramming. Now at 120000 my shutter and TCM are causing problems both related to the open actions but am over my warranty. If this was an issue that Ford had posted and connected to my VIN to have completed would that dealer be able to still fix the vehicle being they had it during the covered timeframe?

  5. I have a 2015 Focus, which just had clutch and seals replaced at 32k miles.. my question is, my car isnt in this 7y 100k warranty, so, it seems my trans is only covered to 60k.. so if after 60k, and my clutch and seals fail again, do i foot the entire bill?

  6. I have a 2013 Ford Focus and I’ve seen Steering Assist Fault – Service Req’d alert twice now in the last 2 weeks. How can I find out if this problem falls under 14M01 or 14M02?

  7. I have a 2012 Ford Focus & I didn’t really notice the shuddering until the Ford dealership informed me that I would need to get the clutch shudder and the seal kit , this is a extended warranty its obviously a problem with these model cars how come they won’t take this recall serious

  8. Hi I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta… it has a branded title, so it is not eligible for any of these repairs. However, it says you can ask to have it fixed if there is “related damage”… why are they waiting to fix these things until something already happens? That doesn’t seem proactive. There is obviously a problem with the clutch and transmission in these vehicle and the reason that my car was given a salvage title wouldn’t effect how it runs… I don’t understand why this isn’t a safety recall. The shutters and slips have caused my car to completely stall out while in traffic. That’s not safe. I love Ford and support the company, but I feel like this is an issue that needs to be handled differently. Is there anything the company could do?

  9. I have a 2012 fiesta that I bought used around 2 months ago, It shuddered a couple times the first week I had it and then seemed ok, but in the last week it has started shuddering bad anytime I give it gas from a complete stopped position. The car has 61k miles on it and the previous owner mentioned having the transmission serviced before. Will I be covered for this fix? Thank you.

      • I have a 2014 ford focus with 85k miles and I was told was several times my car isn’t under warranty anymore. The total cost is 1300.00 to get it replaced. I went to ford and I was told I need a new clutch. I have read all kinds of articles on the extended warranty but I’m getting the run and round saying I only have a recall on TCM. I’ve almost gotten into several wrecks because of the clutch slipping on me. I can only drive myou car for a few drive cycles before it slips on traffic while on gear. SOMETHING has to be done before someone gets killed and it become a bigger problem.

  10. I have a Ford Fiesta built date 01/01/15 with powershift dual dry clutch transmission.I have had to go through a consumer group to obtain the extended warranty for the module under program 14M02. However Ford Australia will not send through any extended warranty for the clutch seal problems ie 14M01.
In Australia it seems the extended warranty is only 5 years or 160,000 km ( 100,000 miles). As we have had to have 1. Software update then 2. Module replacement when the car decided to just stop going onto a busy highway, I am fearful that there will be further dramas down the track.
It seems the warranty is for Fiesta built before 15 th October 2014 that the program 14M01 applies. Does anyone know if Ford have changed their clutch/ seals between this date and when the car was built 2 and a half months later?

  11. I bought a 2012 Focus used and the shudder didn’t get bad enough to take it in until recently. We have about 109K miles so we missed the extended warranty. Is there any other program to help us? The dealer said it needs a new clutch.

  12. Have to have whatever service is required for this awful shudder problem. I have had it in 3 times before 100,000 miles (99,000 was the 3rd), and finally at 104000 miles I told them no more software updates, it is not fixing the problem. The dealer said that ford approved the fix, with $100 deductible. Why is there a deductible if the problem has been identified but not resolved for nearly two years? Also, is there a warranty to this fix. I was told that with the deductible, there would be a mandatory warranty, but if there is no cost to the owner, the fix would not have any warranty, and since I am now over 100,000 miles, if the fix didn’t work I would be totally responsible for any further instances of this problem. I don’t understand – there is no warranty on repairs by Ford? Could someone please help clear this up!

  13. I have 104500 miles on my 2012 fiesta and the transmission just went out entirely. We brought it in to ford for the tcm recall and it was doing ok until recently. I hope we can get our car fixed and have ford pay for it since they know these cars are all falling apart.

  14. My 2014 Ford Focus VIN number is not included, however the dealer does acknowledge the problem is the same as the 14M01. I called Ford and asked them to make sure it gets escalated to be included.

  15. I have the problems which are described in this outline and are already confirmed by a Ford dealer. However, this dealer denies the repair under 14M01 as I have not the respective letter. But I am the third owner so the letter probably went to the first one. The dealer only wants to do the repair under 14M02 which means 100 USD deduction. How can I solve the problem?
